First-Year Lyndsey Shepard picked up 5 ground balls for the Bantams.
The Bantams came out strong against the Wesleyan University Cardinals, taking a commanding 8-1 lead after 25 minutes of play. The attack was led by senior captains Rachel and Alisen, as well as sophomore Hadley, who all scored two goals in the first. Bruno and Kaitlin helped out with a goal apiece to round out the first half scoring. We were great on the free position line, scoring three of our first half goals off 8 meter opportunities. Our defense held strong for most of the first half, though Wesleyan chipped away at the deficit, scoring two goals in the last minute to pull within five at halftime.
The Cardinals would not go away in the second either, with teams trading goals for the first 15 minutes of the half, but we still had a dominating six goal lead with ten minutes left. Refusing to back down, Wesleyan battled back to rally off the next four goals, pulling within two. That would be as close as they would get, however, as we survived with a final score of 12 to 10 in favor of Trinity.
There were a lot of positives to take away from the game, but also some things to work on. We will look to be better off the draw, especially working together and going in twos for those ground balls. We also ran into foul trouble, committing 25 fouls to Wesleyan’s 13. Bruno was impressive defensively, not registering a single foul, while contributing four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Lenny and first-year Lyndsey Shepard were strong on defense as well, picking up 6 and 5 ground balls, respectively. Gina and Liv split time in goal, each making three saves. Offensively, Rachel finished with 4 goals and an assist to lead the team.
